In perfect conditions 25 club members enjoyed the beautiful and scenic autumn morning at the 2 lap Parkrun at Druridge Bay country park.
21 of these were competing for points in the Grand Prix donning the Green & White vest.
6 members recorded course PB’s and 4 were first timers to the course.
We had 9 of these in the top 20 finishers with David Bennett & Gary Weir the first 2 home and recording there 3rd counting race points for Division 1 with sub 19:00 times.
The next 5 runners were all sub 20:00, four of them from Division 2 and an eagerly awaited race between Ian Baxter & Will Brindley as the race to win the division gathered pace, After Ian came out on top he now knows a Top 2 finish at Brampton will seal the 1st place trophy. Kevin King gained a point to edge into 3rd place ahead of David Shields, However David has the trump card of still having the chance to improve points in Race 12 and steal 2nd or 3rd place. Will Brindley currently holding onto 2nd Spot can still will the division but will rely on others getting ahead of Ian.
Division 3 is now all but wrapped up for Stu Smith needing only a top 5 finish out of 7 in the division at Brampton to seal 1st place. Shaun, Martin and myself all gaining extra points in Category A with Shaun now having the pressure of favourite to finish 2nd place with the points in the bag, but with competition fierce in the division it will go right to the finish at Brampton and last years winner Martin Fairbairn attempting to squeeze into the trophy places and edge out Shaun or Kandis.
Leading home Division 4 on the day was Ray Carmody finishing 13 seconds clear of Mark Rudkin and must be wondering what could have been if he had been able to complete a 2nd HM this year, instead it was Mark who’s 2nd place on the day has secured 1st place for 2024. David Stamp finished 3rd and will be hoping he can pip Nikki to 2nd place with a good run at Brampton.
In Division 5 Lee Anderson has continued to pick up extra points and is now in the position of Winner takes it all at Race 12, if he runs and is 1st home he takes the divisional honours.
Division 6 will also go to the wire with Claire Mason in pole position, however if Alyson competes in Race 12 and wins the honours will be tied. Rob Kelly has confirmed a 3rd place finish.
Division 7 saw Anita Dabbs pick up a point to move 1 point clear at the top, with her quickest parkrun of the year in 27:28 finishing a minute clear of Colin Brown, Unless Anne Craddock can win at Race 12, Anita will now be clear winner or share the honours. Stacey Short was not to distracted by her upcoming birthday to bag the points to guarantee the 3rd place trophy ahead of Suzanne Claassen.
