MMM 2024

Michael’s Mad Marathon Saturday 29th June 2024 in memory of Tony Holland.

Well, what can I say, this was the 5th year that this event was held at Blyth South Beach and I think this was the best ever so far (they just keep getting bigger and better).  At some point, I think we’re ‘going to need a bigger tent’.

Myself, Carol, Tony and Stephen were there early and had everything set up before 7am and over the next 30 minutes, a steady stream of intrepid, nervous runners arrived, anxious to get started.  There were a total of 53 runners starting on Lap 1.  Tony Holland’s mam and dad travelled from Wales to be on the starting line ready to set the runners off (which they always are and despite the earlier start of 8am this year).

The weather was ideal for the runners, cloudy and not too hot like last year.  There were 3 runners who did an incredible 13 laps, 58.5 miles – Michael Stott, Scott Povey and Shaun Morris.  Last female standing was the fantastic Nikki Courtney who completed 10 laps, 45 miles.  Each and every runner was amazing and there were so many personal stories and battles throughout the day.

What I love about this event, is the camaraderie – it totally sums up what Blyth RC is all about.

The event was raising the awareness and funds for Manhealth – I’ll confirm how much has been raised once I have the final figure.

All that is left to say is ‘ROLL ON 2025’

Regards, Michael
