The first NEYDL meeting of the season took place at a cool, breezy Churchill playing Fields on Sunday 29th April, with some great performances by the combined Blyth/Alnwick team. Read Dan’s report here.

NE Youth Development League Meet 4

Churchill Playing Fields have become almost a second home for lots of our young athletes. For many, this is where they train, this is where they often compete. Often in the rain, always with the wind on the top bend, and occasionally in the sun. Therefore, this was a fitting venue for the final fixture of the 2017 NEYDL season.

NE Youth Development League Meet 2
25 May 17
The 2nd NEYDL fixture took place on the 21st May at a warm but cloudy Churchill Playing Fields. Following our 3rd place in the season opener, the Blyth/Alnwick team were looking to build on this and perhaps challenge Gateshead for 2nd. With an astonishing 7 athletes making their Blyth NEYDL debuts, alongside our regular athletes, we had a very strong team in terms of both numbers and quality.

The NEYDL season kicked off at a sunny but windy Monkton Stadium on Sunday April 30th, with the combined Blyth/Alnwick team starting another campaign after 3rd place finishes in the last two seasons.

NECAA Indoor Track and Field Champs

Seven Blyth juniors took part in these championships over the weekend of February 18th/19th with fantastic performances being recorded throughout the two days.

Sportshall Competition
24 Jan 17
The first ever Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series took place on Saturday 21st January, and was attended by 40 enthusiastic young athletes from all over the North East. Each athlete had the opportunity to compete in a sprint, endurance race, chest push, standing long jump and vertical jump.
All athletes received a medal, and scored points which will carry forward to the next meeting on the 25th February when 'Star Athletes' will be decided in each age group. Luke Pichler from Wallsend Harriers was the highest scorer on the day, with Maya Turner being Blyth's top scoring athlete.

December News Update

Please read the latest news update via the link below. Monday night training at Bede will be as normal on 19th December. There will then be a 2 week break with training resuming on Monday 9th January 2017. There may be training at other times over the Christmas period, please speak to one of the coaches or check out the Facebook page for announcements.

Quadkids Competition
17 August 16
Blyth Running Club will be hosting this Quadkids event on Bank Holiday Monday, the 29th August, with the aim of providing an exciting, fun and accessible event for young athletes. Each athlete will compete 4 events within their age groups, with results for individual events converted into points that will be totalled up at the end of the event. The emphasis is on fun and friendly competition, and there will be several UKA coaches on hand to assist and offer tips to the youngsters. All athletes will receive a certificate.

North East Youth Development League
13 July 16
On Sunday July 17th we have our final track and field league meeting of 2016 at Churchill Track Whitley Bay. This is for Juniors who are School Year 6 and 7 (under 13), school year 8 and 9 (Under 15), School years 10 and 11 (under 17)
The first event is 11:30
We form a combined team with Alnwick.
We would like as many Juniors as possible to compete so we can finish the season with a strong performance
The Amateur Athletics Association have devised standards for every event and any athlete who achieves this standard can purchase a badge. To try and encourage the Juniors to compete in the NEYDL, the club have agreed to present any Blyth Junior who achieves one of the standards the appropriate badge free of charge. This only applies in NEYDL fixtures, if anybody achieves a standard in other competitions then they will be able to purchase the badge. This will apply from July 17th.
