A disappointing turnout of only 47 runners for the penultimate
race in the this season's Winter Series, maybe the return to wintery weather
dampened people's enthusiasm? The gusty, damp conditions did nothing to slow down Claire
Stewart, the winner on the night by virtually a full minute from second
placed Lauren Barrett, with Phillipa Edwards a
further 9 seconds adrift in third. All
three recorded season's bests, Claire by over 90 seconds, Lauren by just over
30 seconds and Phillipa just under 30 seconds, in
fact considering the conditions it was surprising that 19 runners ended up
recording season best times. It is also worth mentioning that Phillipa has ran in all 6 races so far and has improved
her time in each race, fingers crossed for the last one! With one race to go Phillipa holds a
commanding lead in the overall individual competition with 40pts, Lauren is
second on 79pts and Ralph in third on 81pts. The team competition was once again won by "Alison's
Aces" with 37 pts, "MP Free Runners" were second with 51pts
and on 67pts in third were "Hot Tottie". This win by "Alison's Aces" gives
them the overall team competition even with one race to go (unless we change
the scoring system to the same as Formula 1 and give double points for the
last race) as they are on 135pts, 44pts in front of second placed "Hot Tottie", with "MP Free Runners" third on
78pts. Only 11pts separate the third
and sixth placed teams. Fastest on the night was Bradley Clough in a time of 13:36, with
Lee Cuthbertson also breaking 14 minutes with
13:49, fastest female was Emma James in 16:01. As always many thanks to the two Daves, the Handicapper (Stig)
and all the helpers on the night. The last race of the series is on Wednesday 16th April, let's
have a good turnout. |
