Had somebody been praying to the weather gods? After the horrendous wind and rain just
hours earlier everything had calmed down to give decent conditions by the
time the first runner was away at 7:15 pm.
Fifty two runners finished this instalment of the Winter Series, with
20 recording season's best times. For the first time in the four races we had a sprint finish, as
Emma James and Joseph Woods fought it out down the finishing straight with
Emma just holding off Joseph to take first place, although both were given
the same time. Louise Coultate rounded out the top three finishing 9 secs
adrift. Phillippa
Edwards is leading the individual competition overall after the 4 races on
37pts, Phillippa has improved her time over every
race, as has Steve Gillespie who is second on 72pts. In third place with 76pts is Mr
consistency, Keith Willshire, whose 4 times only
differ by 6 seconds. In the team race, the perennial runners up, "Alison's
Aces" went one better by winning with 63pts, closely followed in second
and third by "French and Saunterers" and
"RnR" with 74 and 75 pts
respectively. "Alison's
Aces" have therefore increased their lead in the competition outright
with 85 pts, "RnR" are still in second on
67pts, with "Hot Tottie" (58pts) and
"Disciples of Keith" (57pts) fighting it out for third and fourth. Fastest finisher on the night was Jon French in a time of 14:02,
with James Young just 2 seconds slower; Leanne Herron was once again fastest
female in a time of 15:42. With 43 runners finishing within a minute and all 52 within 1
minute 37 seconds the timekeeper was kept on his toes. As always many thanks to the two Daves,
the Handicapper (Stig) and all the helpers on the
