The
final race of the 2011/12 Winter Series took place on Wednesday 4th April
with a few new faces taking part in the series for the first time. With a strong cool breeze to contend with
times were never going to be as fast as the previous race, although there
were still 13 runners who recorded season's best times. One of
these was race winner Louise Douglas who, not to be outdone by best friend
Helen (the winner of race 6), ran an incredible 2 minutes faster than her
previous best in winning by what must be a record margin of 88 seconds. Second place went to Steph,
and Peter Holmback was third. Both Steph and
Peter also ran season's bests, with Peter obviously benefiting from all his
marathon training. For
once in the team competition the "Broons"
couldn't manage a win, being relegated to third by race winners "RnR" and second placed "Got The Runs". Fastest
finisher on the night was once again Jake Jansen with a time of 14:03. The race for fastest female was always
going to be an interesting one as Heather Christopher and Charlie Hedley were
starting off the same handicap, and although they had a great race, resulting
in a close sprint finish they were both usurped by a guest appearance from
Leanne, who claimed the honours with a time of 15:47. Some
consolation for Heather however as she lowered her own female vet course
record by 5 seconds to 16:02. Many
