Sherman Cup /
Davison Shield 2015
[Wed 14th Oct]
The Sherman Cup (men) and Davison Shield (women)
competition returned to Temple Park, South Shields on Saturday 10th
October. With the first three finishers
from each club in every age category (except U11's) counting towards the team
score, the clubs who turn out most runners throughout the series of races are
likely to be the overall winners.
In sunny, calm conditions the U11 boys
was the first race away with Blyth's contingent of Sam Browning (12th), Joshua
Martin (20th) and Joshua Crisp (51st) all running well on the fast course. This was immediately followed by the U11
girls with the fast improving Abi Fiddaman
finishing 17th.
In the U13 races, Blyth was represented
by Will Browning (59th) and Kyle McLaren (70th) in the boys race but
unfortunately had no runners in the U13 girls race. The U15 boys race saw the highlight of the
day from a Blyth perspective with first year U15 Josh Fiddaman
surprising everyone by recording an excellent first place, Josh was supported
by Liam Marsh, a relative newcomer to running and especially cross country to
record an impressive 23rd place finish.
Jake Masterman
and Erin Scott both ran well to finish 9th and 25th in the U17 men and U17/U20
women races respectively.
Blyth fielded 5 runners in both the
senior/veteran men's and women's races. With the womens
race away first, Leanne Herron (60th), Heather Christopher (61st) and Helen
Morris (181st) combined to give Blyth women 14th place in the vets team
competition, Louise Coultate (244th; our only senior women runner) and Anne
Craddock (263rd) completed our representation.
The mens race saw Jon French (fresh from his
run at the stampede earlier in the morning) finish in 115th place, followed
home by Rob Barkley (151st), Graeme Stewart (189th), Shaun Dodd (292nd) and
Dave Bradley (413th). Rob, Shaun and
Dave combined to be 24th vets team.
