Indoor T&F Update - Jan 15
[29-Jan-2015]
The
indoor T&F season is now building towards its conclusion, and several Blyth
athletes have put in some great performances in January.
On
the 17th January Alice Dungworth, Charlotte Ramsay
and Jake Masterman competed at the Northern Athletics
Championships, alongside athletes such as Katharina Johnson-Thompson. Alice
qualified from her 300m heat running 43.10s, but was unable to progress beyond
the semi-final. Jake was making his debut on a full indoor track, and ran a PB
of 58.64s in the 400m which is an impressive time on an indoor track. Charlotte
narrowly failed to progress from her heat after running 61.93s in the 400m
The
Gateshead indoor meeting on the 22nd January had record number of participants,
and the atmosphere inside the arena was electric for an exciting night of
athletics.
Making
her debut at this level of completion was young Ellie Campbell. Despite a few
nerves, she performed brilliantly jumping 1.00m in the U13 high jump, which she
followed up with a 10.46 PB in the 60m sprint. Ellie Morris continued her
excellent winter season with victory in the U13 high jump, equalling her PB by
jumping 1.30m to lead the North East rankings.
Dave
Swalwell looked in great shape as he ran 7.69 over
60m, whilst Jake Masterman made great progress to dip
under 8s for the first time, by running 7.96s. Alice Dungworth
was some way off her best running 8.41s, but still was one of the fastest U17
women on the night. I was also in action for the first time this winter, 11.20m
in the triple jump was a solid but unspectacular start to the season.
The
North East champs are coming up in February, and there are several Blyth medal
prospects so good luck to everyone!
