Harrier League Race 6 – Prudhoe
[23rd-Mar-2013]
What
a difference a year makes! Last year on
the same weekend it was clear blue skies, no wind and 21 degrees C, this year
freezing temperatures and strong winds creating -10 degrees wind chill.
Steve
D sums up the day below.
"
To say it was a little bit cold at Prudhoe would be like say the sea is a bit
wet, i.e. a massive understatement !!. It was the wind that made it especially unpleasant
!. Dave B, Ralph, Peter H and Calum did a good job getting the tent to stay up and we all
huddled in it till the last minute. The
under 13 Lads did a fantastic job with Taylor, Connor Adam and josh all running
really well and doing BRC well proud !, then it was U15 boys with James
representing Blyth, followed by the U15 lasses with Charlie, Alice and Erin
braving the elements. After that the
senior blokes turn with Peter H flying off at the start !, It was three instead
of the usual 2 laps and whilst the "big hill" wasn't as long as it
usually was the fact that we had to do the cut back version 3 times more than
made up for it. The ground was rather
hard in parts with the rutted tracks being a particularly uncomfortable
experience, which then switched to the obligatory xc
mud. I managed to run up the hill the
1st lap, run/walked on the 2nd and just walked up it the 3rd time !! I am sure the rest of the Lads had a similar
story !! Then the U17 men with Mark and Joseph.
Last
but no means least it was time for the Ladies with Phillippa
the only brave sole competitor !
What
a fantastic way to end the xc season, well done to
all those that have given it a go this season !!
All
the best !!

Congratulations
go to ............the U13 boys team with Taylor winning the race and being
superbly backed up by Connor (6th) and Adam (14th) to give the lads 2nd team on
the day, Taylor and Connor now join Josh in the fast pack, similarly the U15
girls were 2nd team on the day with Erin being promoted to the fast pack. Charlie wins an individual bronze medal for
third place overall in the U15 girls. The
senior men's team won division 3 on the day, but still finish third overall in
division 3, so will have another season in the same division.
