British Masters X-C Champs 2013
[Sat 17th Mar]
The
British Masters Cross Country Championships took place at Herrington Country
Park, Sunderland on the 17th March.
The
regions Masters athletes lined up against many leading UK veteran athletes for
the annual Cross Country Championships.
Only
three weeks previous the National Cross Country Championships were held here. Whilst the course was a little less tough -
it was still quite heavy going with a cold wind blowing across the exposed
course.
The
first race - (approximately 6k) was all ladies categories and over 65 men. It
was a 2k lap course, Heather Christopher and Helen Morris represented Blyth - finishing
in 49th and 90th positions respectively, and Heather just missed out by 3
seconds on a Masters medal coming 4th in the over 40 category. Wakefield's
Julie Briscoe won the race just beating Clare Martin from Telford AC (the
recent British and Irish Cross Country International Winner).
The
second race for over 35 to 60 year men consisted of 4 laps - 144 finished, with
Kevin Freeman representing Blyth and finishing in 131st position. The race was
approximately 8k and was won by Philip Hinch of Tipton Harriers.
