Windy Gyle Fell Race
[Sun 24th Jun]
Well, I thought to myself, I really
enjoyed the Les Allcorn 10K. So what made it so
good? Was it the mixture of being so far north that I was nearly in
Scotland? Or was it being in a lovely setting and having rather pleasant
weather and of course a few uphill sections that I quite like.
So what next that fits the criteria,
“The Windy Gyle Fell Race”
Is it in the north? Yes at one point
you go into Scotland
Is it in a lovely setting? Yes it’s in
the cheviots
Does it have a few up hills? Yes it
does
Right off I go to Barrowburn,
somewhere at the end of a very long lane that’s covered in sheep in
Northumberland. I give the woman in the car park a five pound note which goes
to North Tyneside SRT (Worthwhile cause). And I set off at 10.30 with Dave Logan's
voice in my head saying it’s a lovely course with plenty of running sections
(Yes if you are a Mountain Goat Dave!).
I really enjoyed it and I got to the
end a few minutes down on what I had hoped for but had a great time with a
refreshing dip in the stream afterwards like all fell runners do.
