Weekend Round Up

The veteran Ladies of the Club achieved further success at the
weekend, when they won the Team Prize at the Veterans Association Cross Country
Championships held at Bedewell Park, Jarrow. A beautiful spring morning- and the first race
got underway for veteran ladies and men over 65, approximately 4 miles on a
flat course consisting of two 2 mile laps. Heather was first back in 5th
position, followed by Susie in 9th and Helen in 22nd. The race was won by Claire Simpson from Jarrow
and Hebburn.
Both
Heather and Susie won bronze medals in their respective age categories as they
combined with Helen to win the team prize and become the North Eastern X-C
Veteran team champions.
The veteran men's race followed - consisting of three laps -
approximately 5.8 miles. Iain singer- who ran well to finish in 27th position
was the only Blyth male competitor. The men's race won by the phenomenal Sunderland
harrier Brian Rushworth.
Further
success for the Club was achieved by Craig Birch as he became the Club’s first
ever winner of the Gold Medal for the Senior Men at The North East Countries
Athletics Association Indoor Pentathlon.
