Weekend Round Up
[Mon 18th Jun]
A busy weekend for the juniors with the
Northumberland Schools Championships at Gateshead Stadium on Saturday and the
final Young Athletes League at Monkton Stadium on Sunday.
On Saturday Matty Jackson,
Charlotte Ramsay, Chris Lillico, Joseph Dungworth, Charlie Hedley, Jake Jansen, Calum
Storey and Bethan Sproat all
represented East Northumberland schools at the Northumberland schools champs,
hoping to finish in the top two of their events and therefore qualify to
represent Northumberland at the Inter Counties T&F champs later this month.
Although all performed well, the ones to qualify were:-
Jake,
1st in the U20 men's 3000m
Calum, 2nd in the U20 men's 2000m steeplechase
Chris,
1st in the U20 men's high jump with a new club record of 1.87m - this was held
indoors due to the poor weather conditions
Bethan, 1st in the U17 women's high jump and 2nd in the U17
women triple jump
In the third and final Young Athletes League of the
season held at Monkton on Sunday a rather small combined Blyth/Alnwick team finished last of the six teams competing. However, a number of good performances
resulting in individual pb's were recorded, the
highlight being Bethan's first place in the U17
women's high jump with a new club record of 1.52m. Other pb's
were recorded by Alice Dungworth (13.9s; U15 girl's
100m), Ellen Keenan (15.3s; U15 girl's 75m hurdles), Matty
Jackson (10:47.7; U17 men's 3000m), Joseph Woods (5:45.5; U17 men's 1500m
steeplechase), and Joseph Dungworth (27.7s; U17 men's
200m and 2:18.0; U17 men's 800m). Many thanks to these and all the other juniors
who took part, everybody had a good day out and it was great to see such team
spirit.
