Track & Field Meet 3 – Churchill
Track
[1st-Jul-2012]
A much larger combined Blyth/Wallsend team took to the track and field
for the penultimate meeting of this season's North of England Track & Field
league on Sunday 1st July. Newcomers to track
and field for this meet were Chris Laidlaw, Michael Scott, Matty
Jackson and Leanne Herron, plus the first appearance of the season from Craig
allowed much better representation throughout the events resulting in a fine
third place for the combined team.
As in the previous meeting many new pb's were
achieved and a further 3 new club records set.
In winning the men's 'A' High Jump, Chris Lillico
set a pb and new club record of 1.88m, bettering his
previous outdoor best of 1.85m. Not to
be outdone, Bethan Sproat
won the women's 'A' High Jump with a new pb and club
record of 1.55m, and in the women's Hammer Steph
Ramsay (having a day off from her sprint duties), produced a throw of 19.76m
for a pb and the third club record of the day.
Other winners on the day were Dave Swalwell in
the men's 100m 'B' race, Leanne in the women's 800 'B', Craig and Scott Povey in the men's Triple Jump 'A' and 'B' respectively,
Charlotte Ramsay in the women's Triple Jump 'B' and the men's 4x100m relay
squad. Danielle Hodgkinson
of our partners Wallsend was a clear winner in the women's 1500 'A' race and
almost "doubled up" but had to settle for second in the 800m.
Many thanks to all the athletes already mentioned plus Calum Storey, Jake Jansen, Ralph Dickinson, Helen Morris,
Ken Turnbull, Terry Hart, Heather Barrass, Hayley Masterman, Sharon Richardson, all the Wallsend athletes and
Team manager Martin Telford
As has been said previously it is nice to get wins, but this is a team
event and everyone who competes pick up valuable points towards the teams total
score on the day, this enabled us to finish third on the day behind Morpeth and
NSP but in front of our closest rivals Houghton leaving us in third place
overall with one meeting to go. With two
teams promoted and two relegated it seems fairly certain that we will remain in
the same league for next season.
If any other club members would like a try at T&F then please inform
Ralph, Steve Walker, Helen Morris or Steph Ramsay of your interest. The final
meeting of the season is another local one at Churchill Track, Whitley Bay on
Sun 5th August.
