Track & Field Meet 1 – Churchill
Track
[5th-May-2012]
The first Track and Field League meeting of the season for the combined
Blyth/Wallsend team took place at Churchill Track, Whitley Bay on Saturday 5th
May. This year we are again competing in
the North of England League Division 3E, together with Morpeth Harriers, South
Shields/Birtley, North Shields Poly, Houghton
Harriers and Richmond & Zetland.
Runaway winners of this first meet were NSP with 372 points, with the
joint Blyth/Wallsend team finishing second on 294 points some 30 points in
front of third placed Morpeth. These
results show how important it is to have a competitor in every event, this is
what NSP virtually achieved.
Unfortunately the Blyth/Wallsend team was severely depleted due to
injuries, holidays and competing events, which makes the second place finish
even more respectable and we must give credit to all those from the two clubs
who competed on the day, often gaining valuable points in unaccustomed events.
First up was Jonathan Dickinson (stepping in for his absent father) in
the men's hammer and in his first track & field event broke the club record
with a throw of 18.19m. Later in the day
Jonathan returned for the shot putt and remarkably
achieved another club record with a throw of 8.7m, don't rush back from holiday
Ralph. Julie Clark, also in her first
track & field meet, produced two good runs to finish first in the women's
800m 'B' race and second in the 1500m 'B'.
Other Blyth winners on the day were Helen Morris in the women's 3000m
'B' race, Bethan Sproat in
the women's High Jump and Triple Jump 'A' events, Charlotte Ramsay in the
women's Triple Jump 'B' event, Chris Lillico in the
men's High Jump and Long Jump 'A' events and the men's 4x100m relay squad of
Dave Swalwell, Chris Lillico,
Scott Povey and Wallsend's
Eric Smart.
Wallsend's Danielle
Hodgkinson and Jordan Middlemist
both claimed double victories in the women's and men's 800m and 1500m 'A'
races.
If any other club members would like a try at T&F then please inform
Ralph, Iain Singer, Helen Morris or Susanne hunter of your interest. The next
meeting is at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow on Sat 26th May.
