Harrier League Race 1 – East
Cramlington
[27th-Oct-2012]
So
the Start Fitness NE Harrier League X-C season is upon us once again, with the
first race being hosted by ourselves at the East Cramlington Nature Reserve on
Saturday 27th October. The normal
testing course was made even harder by the wet weather in the preceding week,
resulting in mud, more mud and even more mud.
First
event of the day was the combined U11s' boys and girls race over 1000m in which
Blyth had two runners, Josh Fiddaman and Anya Christopher. Josh started the day off with a bang by
winning the race to make it 4 out of 4 so far for him this cross country
season, Anya performed well in her first ever cross-country race.
Next came the U13 boys
race with Taylor, Connor and Adam all running well to claim 7th team, followed
by the U13 girls where Lois Trail competed her first cross event.
Only
1 competitor from Blyth in the U15 boys with James Young finishing 22nd after
starting from the fast pack, and 3 in the U15 girls where Charlie (starting
from the fast pack), Alice and Erin performed well to finish 4th team.
With
record entries in the senior men's race it was a very promising start to the
season to see 13 Blyth men turn out for this first race with Jake taking the
plaudits on the day for his excellent 29th place, sorry Jake it's up to the
medium pack for you in the next race. The
men finished as second team in division 3 on 78pts, behind Jarrow and Hebburn
AC's 55. Following on from the high turnout in the
men's race it was also very encouraging to see 7 Blyth U17 men in the next race,
led home by Michael in 10th place the team finished a fantastic second to
Alnwick.
The
final race of the day saw another record entry in the senior women's race as
they slid and slithered around two laps of the now extremely muddy course. Heather Christopher leading the contingent of
8 Blyth runners home in 38th position.
