Saltwell 10 km 2012
[Sat 22nd Dec]
Six Hardy souls from Blyth turned up
on a wet and miserable morning for the annual Saltwell
10Km, which is the longest running road race in England!.
Young Jake was running in the year
11/12 race and came in under 18 mins in 5th place on the hilly 2 lap 3 mile
course, great running and improving all the time.
Next up was the seniors for the 3.5
lap race, with each lap having its fair share of downhill sections and some
sneaky uphill sections, whose steepness seemed to increase on each respective
lap!
First back for team Blyth was Jon French
in a top 50 placing with a very good time of 40:34. I then dragged my butt over
the finishing line just managing to hold off two fellas
flying in behind me. Third in was Dave Bradley who placed a very good 5th in
his age group and over a minute quicker than last year's time. Last but no
means least was Mark Ponton in a very creditable
46:38 in the top half of the field and knocked off almost 2 minutes from last year's
time, top bloke!!.
The last member of the team was Andrea
Scott who was braving the elements as a spectator and was cheering us round on
each lap, thanks Andrea!
So, in summary, a hard , hilly course
in nasty conditions, enough to put us all off doing it again, but we'll
probably all be back next year, I know I will!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
