Northumberland Half
Marathon
[Sun 25th Mar]
It was a foggy morning that greeted
the Blyth runners on Sunday morning for the 2nd Northumberland 1/2 at Wallington
hall. But the sun was shining by the time the 10 Blyth runners and one honorary
Blyth Canadian started the race.
The numbers running had almost doubled
over last year's race ( 533 vs 286) with a good
mixture of club and unattached runners. The start was not that well organised
and we set off a little late. Unfortunately the hills that were there last year
were still, unsurprisingly, still there this year, and the 4 on the home
straight were particularly testing, again.
Considering Ian and Philippa had both done the Prudoe
cross country the previous day they still finished in respectable times.
Julie knocked over 2 mins off last
year, Davina just beat last year's time in a similar
margin to myself, Mr Roberts was quite pleased to get round without injury and
Mr Mallon was also pleased with his performance. New man Brian also did well on
the difficult course considering he only started running again last November.
Heather Barrass
also managed another great PB ,knocking off 7 mins over last year's time,
helped along by Phillippa.
Finally Cath
Young finished first in her age category in a time of 1:45, well done !.
All in all a great run out in the
countryside, let's hope I can crack 1:40 next year !
