Track and Field Championships
[Tue 15th May 2012]
A total haul of four
medals were secured by a small group of athletes from Blyth at the North
Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships, held at Gateshead International
Stadium on Saturday 12th / Sunday 13th May.
Unfortunately due to renovation
work being carried out in the centerfield, in preparation for the forthcoming Europa Cup Athletics Meeting in 2013, the meetings Long
Throws competitions had to be held outside the Main Arena, which meant that
spectators could not witness those achievements along with the Track Programme.
Charlie Hedley was the
sole Blyth medal winner on the Saturday when she took the Bronze medal in the
U15 girls 3000M race with a time just under 12 minutes. Running in her first
3000M and in her first Championships, it was valuable experience for Charlie
which will no doubt hold her in good stead in the future.
On the Sunday, Adam Swalwell recorded a PB of 31.87 to take the bronze medal in
the 200M, Adam had previously finished in 4th position in the 100M on the
previous day.
Bethan continued her rivalry
with Rachel Scott of Houghton in the High Jump, with both recording heights of
1m 50, only this time Rachel took the Gold on count back, while Bethan had to settle for the Silver medal. However, Bethan did
set a new Club record for the event and will probably set another soon.
In her second event, Bethan took the Bronze medal in the Triple Jump
Charlotte made it to the
finals of the 200M but unfortunately failed to capture a medal.
