This year’s race saw 264 finishers, only 8 down on last year’s
record turnout of 272. On a slightly modified course which started
further towards Seaton Sluice (at the end of the car park opposite the church),
had the return route from Seaton Sluice also on the dunes path instead of
beside the main road and the finish at the bandstand via the promenade the
general opinion was that the course was harder than in previous years.
First
back and completing his third consecutive victory was Ian Harding of Morpeth
Harriers with a time of 32:55. Just over a minute behind in second place
was Graeme Cook of NSP in 34:11, followed by his club mate Anthony Wallett in 34:42.
First
lady back and 32nd overall was Claire McManus also of NSP in a time of 40:01.
As usual Robbie Barkley was first Blyth finisher with a time of 36:49 for
8th place, and the first Blyth lady to finish was Phillippa
Baxter in 43:53.
There is only one trophy presented and this is the “Brian Stringfellow” trophy which is presented to the first Blyth
veteran runner home and this was won by Martin Gaughan.
