[Wed 2nd Mar]
Another fine night and another fine turnout, with 53
runners taking part in the 6th Winter Series race of the season. The conditions were obviously conducive for
good running as there were 29 season's best times recorded. Similar to the last race there was only a
minute separating the runners finishing in 6th and 43rd places
First back was Emma Freeman, running a minute
quicker than her previous best, followed by guest runner Chris Nolan, therefore
2nd and 3rd places were awarded to those finishing 3rd and 4th on the night,
namely Charlie Hedley and Joseph Woods respectively. Both Charlie and Joseph knocked approximately
40 seconds of their previous bests, remarkable in Charlie's case as she had
knocked a minute off in the previous race.
The top of the individual competition has reversed
yet again, with Dave Roberts on 57 points reclaiming first place from Ken
Turnbull, who is 4 points behind on 61, closely followed by Tom Lemin on 65 and Joseph Dungworth
on 68. In fact the top of the table has
closed up so much that any of the current top 9 could take first spot - all to
play for in the last race on April 6th.
In the team competition "Charlie And The
Giraffe" won yet again, with 3 finishers in the top 10 their total score
was a meagre 36 points. "The
Bradley Bunch" and "R n R" finished 2nd and 3rd with 55 and 64
points respectively. "R n R's"
2nd place has catapulted them to the top of the team competition, overtaking
long term leaders "Colin's Crew".
"R n R" have 477 points, "Colin's Crew" 494, and
"Charlie And The Giraffe" are in third place with 534.
Robbie Barkley continued his trend of being fastest
on the night with a time of 13:54 and Heather Christopher was again fastest
lady in 16:07, this being a new female vets record, surpassing the previous
time of 16:10 held by Helen Morris since the 2007/08 season.. Once again many thanks to Keith, Dave, The
Handicapper (Stig) and all the helpers on the night.
