Track & Field Update
[17th-Jun-2011]
Seniors
On Saturday 4th June Blyth Running Club Seniors travelled
to Middlesborough on a wet, windy day for the second
fixture in the North East Track and Field League. Despite having a depleted
team, they performed commendably to finish in 2nd position with only 30 points
covering the first four teams. In the field events Blyth had two winners, with Kalvin Hurst winning the Long Jump and Rebecca Nail the
Triple jump, while Scott Povey won the “B” string
Triple Jump as did Steff Ramsay. On the track, Craig Birch was showing his
versatility by winning the 110M hurdles, finishing third in the 400m hurdles,
third in the 200m and third in the 100m, setting a PB in the process. Ian
Baxter and his wife Phillippa made their season
debuts and both can be pleased with their efforts as they gained valuable
points for the team.
Juniors
The next day, Blyth Juniors had their own
competition at harrow and finished second behind Harrogate. Again, Ryan Povey started proceedings by winning the hammer, while Bethan Sproat won the first track
event, the 80M hurdles race. As usual, the Juniors tried several events with
some notable performances, Tamsin Brown won the 100m
and the discus, while Kalvin Hurst improved slightly
on his Long Jump the previous day to win his event and then followed that by
winning the 1500m as well as the Triple Jump. Rebecca Nail was again successful
in the Triple Jump and managed to win the 300m hurdles on her first attempt as
did Scott Povey at the 400m Hurdles. Chris Lillico managed to win both the High Jump and 800m –
setting a new club record in the process.
Blyth were then successful in the final two relays of the day, the boys U17
100m race and the girls U17 100m race.
