Senior Track & Field Meet 3 – York
[5th-Juy-2011]
The third meet in the Northern Track and Field League saw a magnificent
turn out by the combined Blyth / Wallsend team for the long trip down to York
on Sunday 3rd July. On a hot, hot, hot
day there were some notable performances by athletes from both clubs.
Star performer of the day was surely Rebecca Nail, with a hat trick of
victories in the Triple Jump (9.87m), Long Jump (4.59m) and High Jump (1.4m) all
of which were pb's, and with two of them also being
new club records. The other Blyth
winners were Craig Birch (110m hurdles and Triple Jump), Chris Lillico (High Jump and Long Jump), and the men's 4x100m relay
quartet of Craig, Chris, Scott Povey and Dave Swalwell. Although
not gaining outright victories, there were pb's and
club records obtained by Chris Lillico in the 200m
(23.6s), Dave Swalwell in the Shot Putt (8.33m), Ken Turnbull in the Discus (17.9m), Ralph in
the Hammer (15.15m), Terry Hart in the Javelin (24.88m) and Phillippa
Baxter in the 100m Hurdles (26.6s).
Through sheer hard work and with a fantastic team spirit we managed to
finish in second place on the day, behind a formidable Scarborough team and
also lie second in the overall standings after the 3 meets, with just one more
to go on Sunday 14th August.

Many thanks to all the competitors of both clubs, the supporters,
helpers and officials who made the long trip worthwhile, special thanks to Iain
and Helen for arranging the Blyth teams, to the Team Manager, Martin Telford of
Wallsend for all the hard work he puts in, and finally to the two mini-bus
drivers.

results can be found on the Northern Athletics web site by clicking here, (we are in division 3E), or on the Power
Of 10 web site.
If any other club members would like a try at T&F then please inform
Ralph, Iain Singer, Helen Morris or Susanne hunter of your interest. There were many events in which
Blyth/Wallsend had no competitors, even a few points in these events can make
all the difference.
