Kielder Marathon
[Sun 9th Oct]
"It was a wet cold morning when 9 Blyth runners
arrived in Kielder for the 2nd Kielder
Marathon (5 did the inaugural run so should have known better!).
After the Knitting Club where interviewed by
Newcastle Radio, it was bin bags off and ready for the torture to begin. Well
so much for this being Britain's most beautiful marathon- the scenery could
hardly be seen due to the low clouds and rain.
This is a very tough course, with loads of steep
inclines followed by equally hard declines. Occasionally the cloud did lift and
the views were spectacular. It was better organised this year (although the
start was delayed by 15 minutes), with lots of water on route and refreshments
at the finish. Each runners name was announced by Steve Cram as they crossed
the finish line, making us feel like real athletes!
Is it the most beautiful marathon ?? You bet.
Would I do it
again?? - You bet (but maybe next year I might just catch the bus!!)"
