Track
& Field Heat 2 - Middlesborough
[Mon
7th Jun 2010] The combined Blyth /
Wallsend team finished third in their second North of England Track and Field
meeting of the season held at a sweltering Clairville
Stadium, Middlesborough on Saturday 5th June. Following on from the combined teams first
place in the first meet of the year at Churchill, the team now stand second
overall, one point behind Middlesborough / Cleveland
(the winners of this event) and one point in front of Scarborough. With two more events to go promotion is a
distinct possibility as the top two go up at the end of the season.
With
a much changed team from the first event and members of both clubs trying track
and field for the first time the third place finish was very encouraging. Highlights from a Blyth perspective were;
Craig Birch (1st 110m hurdles 'A', 1st 400m hurdles 'A' and 2nd triple jump
'A'), Chris Lillicl (2nd 200m 'A' and high jump 'A'),
Kalvin Hurst (1st long jump 'A' and 2nd 1500m 'B'),
Andrew Henderson (2nd 5000m 'A' - this after competing in a 5k race earlier
that morning) and Stacey Robinson (2nd high jump 'B'). These results together with Wallsend's Eric Smart's 1st places in both the 100m and
200m 'B' races, the mens 4x100m 2nd place and not forgetting
the valiant efforts by all the other team members to pick up points ensured the
combined team had another successful day.
Both
clubs would like to thank all the athletes who took part in the event and
helped to give us such an excellent start to this year's competition.
The
other Blyth members to take part were; Scott Povey,
Iain Singer, Steve Dobby, Ian Baxter, Ken Turnbull, Steve Walker, Ralph
Dickinson, Stephanie Ramsay, Phillippa Baxter, Joanne
Straughan, and Helen Morris.
If
any club members would like to participate in either of the 2 remaining
fixtures then please inform one of the Club Captains, the next event is on Sunday 4th July at Hexham.
