Saltwell 10k 2010
[Sat 18th Dec 2010]
Twas a cold and frosty
morning and a week before Christmas and I decided to do a race instead of
shopping, no brainer there you say. The Saltwell 10 K is the oldest running race in the UK, the first
one taking place in 1911. This was the
third time I have done this race but my first proudly wearing my BRC vest. The course was well gritted and the marshals
were an encouraging bunch. The race is
over three and a half laps and the hills really start to make themselves felt
by the 3rd lap. It was slightly disheartening
when the leader flew past as I was 2 1/2 laps through the race and he was miles
ahead of the rest of the field, as there was no more lapping, thank god! Finally finished in a respectable 46:22 and
this will be my one and only race where I will be 1st for the club, woo hoo !. As I finally
crossed the line I received a shorts glass and a miniature whiskey for my
trouble, until next year, Merry
Christmas everyone.
