Track & Field Heat 4 – Churchill

[Mon 3rd Aug 2009] The final match of the season took place on Sunday 2nd August at Churchill Playing Fields. On another very warm day the combined team of Wallsend and Blyth managed to snatch 3rd place from Houghton with our performances in the relay events.

That was the 4th match we have finished 3rd and we finished 3rd overall in the league.

The only event winners from the combined Blyth / Wallsend team on the day were ‘A’ string victories for Joy Fenwick (800m), Donna Horne (1500m) and ‘B’ string wins for Kerry Bentham (800m) and Helen Morris (3000m). However, while the glory went to these athletes, the season has been built more on the solid support offered by a host of willing athletes from both clubs who've consistently picked up points in all disciplines - including many who were completely unfamiliar to track & field prior to the season.

Great credit should go to all of these athletes, as well as the efforts of team managers Martin Telford and Ralph Dickinson.
