Start Fitness NE Harrier League Prudhoe
[Mon 16th Mar
2009] For the fifth race in the North
East Harrier Cross Country League at Prudhoe, Blyth managed to field a senior mans team
and two women’s teams. The infamous testing
course was made even harder in several places by a strong headwind and with two
brutal climbs from the valley back into the windswept fields high up on the
Tynedale hillside it was a day for strong runners and Blyth had such a runner. Gary Jones led for almost the entire race and
his lead was such that he even had time to stop and put his shoe back on after
it had had come off in one of the extremely muddy parts of the course. Gary is the first Blyth runner to have won a Harrier League
race in the Clubs 25 year history.
Another Blyth runner who found the course and conditions to her liking was 16
year old Emma Freeman, who finished third in the Under
17/20 Ladies race and was actually the first under 17 girl home.
