Good Friday Relays
[Tue 14th Apr 2009] The
Annual Good Friday Relays were held in perfect warm conditions at Newburn Riverside on April 10th. Blyth had a
good turnout, especially in some of the junior events. In the senior men’s 4x2.28M relay the Blyth ‘A’ team
of Robbie Barkley (13:05), Craig Birch (13:05), Adam Smith (13:18) and Paul
Whalley (13:54) finished 11th team and the ‘B’ squad of Michael Stott (12:49),
Gareth Hope (14:26), Steve Richardson (13:55) and Shaun Dodd (14:59) finished
19th. In the veteran men’s relay over
the same distance, the Blyth ‘A’ team
of Dave Bradley (14:45), John Mallon (15:25), Steve
Walker (13:55) and Ralph Dickinson (15:31) finished in 12th place, there was
also an incomplete ‘B’ team of Keith Willshire
(15:30) and Terry Hart (17:48).
In the ladies combined
U17/U20/Senior/Vets race (over 2.28M) Blyth had 5
competitors, Leanne Herron (22nd in 14:36), Helen Bruce (31st;15:41),
Cath Young (32nd and 8th vet;15:45), Louise Douglas (44th;17:18) and Steph Ramsey (48th and 14th U17;20:50), the combined
finishing positions of the first 3 resulted in a position of 8th team.
The outstanding performance in the
junior events was in the 1.8M U13 boys race where Blyth had 8 finishers with M.
Jackson (4th;10:06), J Hall (7th;10:26) and C. Arkless
(12th;10:55) finishing as 2nd team, the other runners being J. Young
(23rd;11:36), L. Henderson (24th;11:39), M. Nicholson (26th;11:51), J. Dungworth (27th;11:53) and J. Harvey(30th;12:13). The remaining results were; U13 girls (1.8M),
C. Ramsey (14th;12:54) and B.Sproat
(19th;13:56); U15 girls (1.8M) R. Nail (13th;12:48) and in the U15 boys
(2.28M), S. Pavey (17th;14:48) and S. Goodfellow (18th;15:18).
