Club Handicap Race

There were 40 runners taking part in
this year's handicap and it all got off on time except Matty who found it very hard to get
his tracksuit off, even though he was given plenty of help by comments from nearby
officials and runners such as fat g..., get a move on, and some unrepeatable sayings. The
weather was much the same as last year, being blustery and raining, but that was nothing
to the battle hardened Keswick veterans who battled through the conditions. Christine
Willshire appeared in the distance and we at the finish were taking bets that Dave Morris
would beat her in, but Christine found another gear and kept herself in front. She was
followed home by Dave and the club Chairman, Ralph Dickinson (there is no truth in the
rumour that the handicapper was licking up to the Chairman). Behind them was a batch of
runners working very hard and coming in as a group, which made for a good handicap.
Thanks to George Wright, Steve Marshall, Brian Dudding and Bob Soulsby at the start and
finish, and the brave marshalls Ken Gibson, Michael Black Snr., Jimmy Pearson, Barney
Foster and Jimmy Jones.
