Club Handicap Race
25th May 1994
Everthing went well at the start thanks
to Steve Marshall, Matty Brown and Andy Griffin with all runners getting off on time,
except Brian Southern who was busy checking on the fitness of all athletes before offering
any life policies. He arrived at the start some 10 seconds late. Approximately 70 minutes
later Susan Russell came into view, all red about the face and unable to speak to anyone
during the run in. She had worked hard throughout and was a very worthy winner. One of our
newer members Jacqui Lumsden, and an old favourite Stefan Krzsiak followed her home. Next
home was last year's singer of the song "Sack The Handicapper" - Michael Pease
could only utter the words "I'm kn....................." at the end. There were
other excellent runs from Bob Marshall, Carol Schollar, Aynsley Herron, Terry Dixon and
Keith Willshire. Also three runners were below 45 minutes; Dave McKenzie, Martin Gaughan
and Steve Gair.
45 runners took part in the race, 14 finished below 50 minutes, 29 finshed inside their
predicted time, in the range +2.00 and -2.00 there were 30 runners, 15 runners were adrift
somewhere - one day I will get it right!
Thank you to all whop helped in any way, marshalls, timekeepers etc., without this help
the race could not go on.
Finally congratulations to our fastest two on the night, Dave McKenzie for the lads and
Cath Coultate for the lasses. I think you will both agree everything made you work for
your medales and that's what it's all about. To all runners, thanks for taking part.
