Race 6 - Hadrians Wall Half
Marathon – Sun 29th June 2014
This, the sixth event of the 2014 Grand Prix, took place
in the wilds of west Northumberland, just to the north of the Roman Wall.
On what was quite a cool day for late June – no bad thing, that – but
mercifully dry, thirteen Blyth runners set off in an event that had long since
reached capacity and were soon faced with downhill, followed by uphill,
followed by more uphill … and so it would go on. As billed, the race was
truly multi-terrain with the early and late miles on road but with several
miles across trail (which was quite technical in places) and then along forest
paths.
With
the significantly undulating (OK, make that hilly) nature of the course added
to the two thirds that was off-road, this was never going to be a race for PBs
but some good times were recorded nonetheless and the scenery – for those who
managed to appreciate it – was all that could be expected.
Most
of our runners seemed to have enjoyed the experience, at least after they had
stopped having to run and hopefully a few of us will try this one again in the
future.
The
full results can be found on the Event Website.
