Indoor T&F Update

[27-Dec-2014]

Over the last few months plenty of Blyth athletes have been in action at Indoor events, here is a summary of their efforts.

Gateshead Indoor Series 12th October

The indoor season started with a new event for the younger athletes. Ellie Morris, in her first competition in a Blyth vest jumped an impressive 1.30m to take silver, and followed it up with Bronze in the Long jump. Daniel Njai Jr won the year 4 standing long jump. Phoebe O’Donnell just edged out Ellie in close 60m race.

Gateshead Indoor Series 30th October

Jake Masterman & Ella Wood made their indoor U17 60m debuts, running 8.08s and 9.29s respectively. Ellie Morris finished 2nd in the U13 High jump, and also competed in the LJ and 60m.

Monkton Minor athletes 9th November

Josh Martin ran an impressive 10.6s which was the 2nd fastest time in the U9 60m heats, and followed this with 4th in the final. He backed this up with a brilliant 2nd place in the 600m.

Northern Athletics Open Meeting 6th December @ Sheffield

Alice Dungworth made the long trip south to Sheffield to make her debut on a full indoor track. 43.72s in the 300m was a good start to Alice’s winter season.

Monkton Minor athletes 7th December

Josh Martin was again in action, competing in the 60m, as well as taking 3rd in the 600m.

Gateshead Indoor Series 11th December

Dave Swalwell became the first senior to take to the track in anger this winter, and his 60m time of 7.75s was impressive after a long injury lay-off. All being well in 2015 Dave will be representing Blyth at international level. Charlotte Ramsay finished 5th in a competitive U20W competition. Jake Masterman put in two solid races to further build his indoor experience.

Monkton Young Athletes 14th December

Phoebe O’Donnell & Heather Crosbie ran in the U13G 60m, both ran well with Phoebe qualifying for the final. Josh Fiddaman, who was unbeaten as an U13 on the track in 2014, made his U15 debut and finished a superb 2nd in the 600m in 2m01.2. Alice Dungworth ran a scorching PB of 8.2s in the U17W heats, and finished 3rd in a close final. Ella Wood also PB’d with 9.1s. Jake Masterman also ran a PB of 8.1s in the U17M heats.

There are still many indoors meetings over the next three months at Gateshead, Monkton and further afield for all ages. Keith and Dan have all the details for anyone interested.
