Indoor track & field season – final update

The indoor season has now concluded, and here is a report on the Blyth performances over the last two months.

At the Jarrow indoor meetings in February Ella Wood, Jake Masterman and Josh Martin all competed strongly, with Jake wining the 600m. At the concluding Gateshead open series meeting on the 19th Feb Alice Dungworth finished in 2nd in the 60m, with Jake & Ella running strongly as well. A few days later there was a minors meeting at Gateshead, with Ellie Morris taking bronze in the high jump and long jump as well as running a PB in the 60m hurdles. Daniel Njai Jr took 2nd in the shot put, as well as competing in the 60m and standing long jump.

Moving into March, and the Jarrow indoor series concluded with Heather Crosbie equaling her 9.5s PB over 60m, and Jake running a swift 8.1s in his heat. Josh Martin claimed top 6 finishes in both the 60m & 300m a few days later with a couple of excellent runs.

The final event of the season was the NECAA Pentathlon at Gateshead which attracted a very strong field. Hannah Ross-Knight and Ellie Morris made their multi-event debut in the U13 girl’s competition. Hannah scored PB’s in the 60m and shot put on her way to finish 6th in the north east competition. Her performance in the high jump was also noteworthy with a fantastic last chance clearance at 1.10m. Ellie Morris claimed a superb silver medal by the smallest of margins (2pts). PB’s were achieved in 60m, 60m hurdles and the shot put, but the highlight was the massive 1.34m high jump which puts her atop the north east rankings. I was competing in the senior men’s event, and claimed bronze after a mixed day that included PB’s in the long jump & shot put.

The outdoor season is only days away, I’m certain that all athletes who have competed so well indoors this season will continue their good form outdoors.

Regards

Dan
