Senior Track & Field Meet 3 – Churchill Track, Whitley Bay

[7th-July-2013]

Unlike the last meeting, this time the combined Blyth/Wallsend team had a large turnout of competitors so we were hopeful of picking up a large number of points.  Unfortunately the other five teams in the division also had good turnouts making points harder to come by but giving a very good level of competition and creating an almost carnival like atmosphere on a very warm afternoon. Again we finished third, where in a very tight match only 27 points separated the top five 5 teams at the end of the day.

Although we didn't have many outright winners, a lot of good second/third places kept us in the hunt throughout the day.  Winners were; Danielle Hodgkinson (Wallsend) in the women's 1500 'A' race, Crystal Skeldon (Wallsend) women's 3000m 'B', Sam Bell and Bethan Sproat (both Blyth) in the women's HJ 'A' and 'B' respectively.

Three club records also fell, Calum Storey lowering Daniel N'Jai's 3000m s/c record from the last match at Middlesbrough by 7 seconds to 11:51.6; Bethan lowering her own 100m hurdles from 21.3 to 20.7; and Steph Ramsay improving her hammer record by over a metre to 21.1.

League positions after the two meetings so far show us in second place, 3 points clear of both Houghton and New Marske, with two teams going up at the end of the season promotion remains a distinct possibility.
