Elswick Good Friday Relays

[Mon 1st Apr 2013]

The annual Elswick Good Friday Relays took place at the usual location in Newburn Business Park on Friday March 29th.  With an icy wind and the occasional snow flurry it wasn't a day for hanging around.  This year the U13 boys and girls races were combined, as were the corresponding U15 races, also the U17's were part of the senior teams, which meant only 4 races.  Using the amended courses from last year first away were the U13's, where the boys team of Taylor Glover (4th), Josh Fiddaman (6th), Connor Marshall (17th) and Adam Swalwell (41st) all performed well.  The U15's followed with Blyth being represented by Erin Scott, who although suffering from a severe stitch for most of the race, gritted her teeth and was still able to finish (25th).

The senior women's team of Phillippa Baxter, Charlie Hedley and Leanne Herron all ran very similar times in finishing 9th senior team (10th overall) and only 1 minute off 5th place.  The female vets team of Heather Barrass, Helen Morris and Anne Craddock finished as 10th vets team and 35th overall.

Finally to the men, with Blyth contributing to 5 of the 68 teams taking part.  The senior men's 'A' team finished 25th overall (18th senior team), the 'B' team 32nd (24th senior team) and the 'C' team 55th (35th senior team). The vets 'A' team finished 53rd overall (20th vets team) and the vets 'B' team 68th (29th vets team).  Fastest Blyth runner on the day was Lee Cuthbertson with 11:56, but special mention to 15 year old James Young who ran a fantastic 12:23.
