Sprint Relays Competition 2012

[Mon 24th Sep]

Wednesday the 12th of September was the third year that this competition had been held and it was the usual sociable, friendly evening with everybody enjoying themselves.  The first race was the U13 girls 100M and we had one of the youngest (and smallest teams) in the event with Anya, Daisy, Lois and Chloe managing to get the baton round.  Next up was the Senior Women's 100M and this comprised Charlotte, Steff, Heather Barass and Helen Trai; and they managed to win in a time of 57.9. – a club record.  However, that didn’t last very long as the U15 team of Charlie, Lydia, Erin and Alice managed to record 57.4 for a new Club record.

With no u13 or u15 boys teams, the next on the track was the Senior Men and Dave, Chris Lillico, Scott Povey and Chris Laidlaw proceeded to set another club record with a highly impressive 46.8.  In the U17M, Mark Nicholson, Joseph Dungworth, Mattie Jacksonand Chris Sheffer all ran well to record 52.7 but were up against an impressive Gateshead quartet who wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Senior Men’s race.

The U13 girls had another race and although recording a faster time, they finished in 8th position but they all enjoyed and the experience of running in a track competition will do them good in the future (even if it's just a timekeeper shouting at them for standing in the wrong place!).  The Senior Women switched their team around for the 200M with Heather Christopher replacing Helen and they recorded 2.04.5 in winning the race.  The u15 girls kept the same quartet and they recorded 2:05 for the 200M.  In the Senior Men’s 200M, the Blyth quartet recorded 1:42 as they finished just behind the Tynedale team.  Then it was just the 400M, with the Women’s quartet of Charlotte, Helen and the two Heathers winning their race.  While the Men again finished second to the strong Tynedale quartet.

Blyth finished in third position (due to no u13/u15 boys and U17 girls teams), while a strong Gateshead team won the trophy.
