Druridge Bay 10 km Charity Run 2012

[Sun 3rd Jun]

This year's run was in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice, a very worthy local charity.  Once again Alison Lowes with the Druridge Bay Committee worked very hard throughout the year to ensure that this year’s event took place.

The course is multi terrain and with a long beach section with some long inclines later on it is a quite testing route.  The day started early for the timekeepers, recorders, funnel judges and marshals at the water station provided by Blyth.  Thank you to Alison, Susanne, Davina, Adele, Kevin and Dave Roberts for their assistance throughout the morning and afternoon.

At the sharp end Ian Harding of Morpeth won with Alnwick's “super veteran” Peter Grey featuring prominently.  Heaton Harriers and ex Amble High School pupil Phil Green returning to home territory was also amongst the first home.

First lady back for Blyth was Cath Young, with Heather Barrass close behind Andrea Scott also had an excellent run, coming well up the field.  For the gentlemen we were ably represented by James Brown, James Young, Stephen French, Mark Ponton, Dave Cox, Ron and Aynsley.  All had fine races.  Mark Ponton finishing exceptionally strongly in the closing straight.

Thank you to Aynsley for sorting out one of the trophies at very short notice.

Well done to all runners and helpers on the day.
