Junior Autumn Relays 2014

The 11th running of the Junior Autumn Relays saw a brand new course being used. The new route started just near the Band Stand on the links road, with the route going out for ½ mile and then returning along the same path. Due to the usual drop outs (sickness, netball matches etc), there was a last minute change to some of the 15 teams. On a clear, fine night for running we had 15 teams line up for the first leg with Jamie Hawkes (Team E) gaining a lead at the turning point and managing to hold onto it as he passed onto his second leg runner, Emily McKeeken. Lottie Christopher (Team B) was in second position after the first leg , while Zoe Saward was in fourth position for team X. Emily was still in the lead as she passed onto Thomas Farmery to run the third leg, Olivia Watson running for Team X had moved from 4th to second and she passed onto Alice Dungworth for the third leg only one second behind the leader with Macy Robinson (team I) passing onto Cameron McLaren in third position, three seconds behind Alice. Setting the fastest time on the evening by a girl, Alice led her team of Zoe and Olivia to first place, while Cameron, Macy and Emily Kennedy were second, with Kacey Brown, Ellie Campbell and Sam Browning in third place.

The fastest time of 5minutes 1 second (over a distance just over 1 mile) was set by Taylor Glover who pulled his team of Katie Sellars and Ellie Hawkes from 13th to 7th position.

Although not quite royalty the presentations were done by Bede Head boy Joseph Woods to the winning team.

Many thanks to all helpers and officials and Joseph Dungworth and Joey Orange who led and followed the runners to ensure no one got lost.

Results

Junior Autumn Relays 2011

Due to a last minute change of course, the distance was probably slightly longer than usual. There was the usual amount of confusion at the start with 50 children scream “What's my team?”, and with a few non-appearances there was the usual team shuffling – which probably benefited some teams and handicapped some others.

The winning team was Adam Swalwell, Mark Nicholson and Michael Scott. The fastest boy was Chris Lillico and the fastest girl was Charley Hedley.

Before the race there was a presentation of T-shirts to the four Athletes who were nominated as “Athletes Of The Match” in the 2011 Young Athletes League fixtures.

These went to Ryan Povey, Chris Lillico, Jessica Locker and Charlotte Ramsay.

Junior Handicap 2012

Results for the 2012 handicap

The conditions for this years Junior handicap were bright and breezy, with a cold northerly wind for the youngsters to run into for the final mile. The race was preceeded by a small presentation of T-shirts and certificates to the Juniors who had represented Northumberland at the County Sportshall Final at Sunderland earlier in the year.

With over 40 Juniors, ranges ranging from 7 – 17 taking part the start could be described as “organised chaos” without the organisation, the first group were soon away and from then on it was a steady stream until Jake and Chris were the last runners off, with the majority ignoring Kevin's instruction to “take it easy at the start”. The race was won by newcomer Josh Fiddaman, who steadily worked his way through the runners to build up a commanding lead. Finishing second was Ellen Keenan who just beat Natalya in a sprint finish, although Natalya was awarded second position as Ellen hasn’t joined the club yet and was running as a guest. This meant that Connor Marshall was awarded the trophy for third place.

Jake Jansen finished in 8th position and set a new course record of 10:59 for the two mile distance, Charlie was the fastest girl with a time of 13:02.

2010  Young Athletes League

The combined Blyth/Alnwick team have just finished their third season in the YAL and can be
well pleased with their progress.  After promotion last year, the main task was to ensure that
we did not go straight back down. This was achieved quite comfortably, although we were
competing against Clubs who have been formed a lot longer than Blyth. There were several club
records set over the season and several highlights (an unforgettable Steeplechase by Jake
amongst them) and a trip to Doncaster where the bus driver got lost.  Everybody who competed
took part in more than one event with the majority trying field events as well (discus, shot, high jump).

Junior Handicap 2015

Over 40 Juniors gathered at Blyth Beach Car-Park for the 2015 Junior handicap, which was based on a 2 lap course using the beach path and finishing on Blyth promenade.

The runners were all handicapped according to their age and ability so that anyone of the runners could win.  The clouds were gathering and there was a stiff breeze which the Juniors had to run into for the first part of the course.

The first two runners Daniel and Christopher N’Jai were set off and Christopher decided that he didn’t really want to run it, so returned to the start after about 50 yards. However, there was then a steady stream of Juniors setting off until Jake Masterman was the last runner off.

Christopher N’Jai then decided that he did want to run and set off after Jake! With two hundred metres to go newcomer Morgan Stansfield was in the lead, followed by Josh Martin and a fast finishing Sam Browning. Sam managed to  overtake Josh but Morgan held on to win by a few seconds, with Sam in second place and Josh Martin in third, with Josh Fiddaman in fourth setting the fastest time of the night. Erin Scott set the fastest time by a girl. There was just time to hand out the winning trophies and take some photo’s before the rain came! Christopher never caught Jake but did finish the race.
