Race 7 – Red Kite Trail Run – Sun 9th July 2017
10 hardy Blyth runners took up the challenge of the Red Kite Trail Run at the weekend in amongst a field of 160 competitors. For the majority of the 10 it was a first outing at this race so we were blissfully unaware of what we were about to undertake.
Temperatures of 18 degrees faced the runners at the start of the
race only to get warmer on course. Heat mixed with several thousand
hills, (ok there weren't that many but it felt like it) ankle deep mud and a stream
crossing made for an interesting set of results on the day.
The course, consisting of a tiny bit of road but boasting a
majority of the most beautiful trail, stunning views and scenery certainly made
up for the shear torture of the muscle burn of those hills!
Making mincemeat of those hills was Peter Brown of Division one,
crossing the finish line in an amazing 1:02:58 taking maximum 10 points.
Next over the line was Shaun Dodd for division two in an
impressive 1:14.19.
First lady over the line was division 3 runner Julie Lemin in an equally impressive 1:19:54 with 2nd lady a non
GP runner Lisa Scorer in 1:26:09
Division 5 had the highest representation on the day which has
certainly spiced up the competition in this division.
There was differing feedback from the Blyth runners at the end
of this race ranging from ‘hell’ to ‘amazing, definitely returning next year’.
Everyone should certainly try this race once.
With that in mind good luck to all for the next ‘practically
flat’ LGBT!!
