Race 4 – Clive Cookson 10K – Wed 24th May 2017

Of the 31 Blyth runners who ventured out on a hot and sticky Wednesday evening to compete in the Clive Cookson 10k, 25 were participants in this year’s GP with no less than 7 of these participants lining up for the their first GP race of the season and getting their first scores on the board.

The course was the same as previous years, a fairly fast and flattish, 2 lap course starting in front of Monk Seaton High School heading clock wise and following the path, up a long slow incline, past Rake Lane Hospital, before turning right towards Murton and then onto a nice country path which wound its way around the edge of a farmer’s field, eventually coming back on to the roads heading past Langley First School, through some residential streets and then returning to the high school for the second lap. The finish was on the road within the school grounds, where finish times were recorded via the chip timing mats and all competitors received a much appreciated bottle of water and a T-shirt. This may be a wise time to point out that it is the gun time and finish order that is used to determine the results and not the chip time.

First home for Blyth was Peter Brown in 46th, followed by Steven French and Graeme Stewart in 69th and 80th respectively, first Blyth female was Claire Calverley 129th, followed by Julie Lemin 180th and Sandra Watson 205th. Sandra also bagged a second place finish in her age category. Well done to all of those who took part.

Please excuse the lateness in publishing the report and results, this was largely due to having to wait for the results to be amended because of timing mat issues, and this leads me to give everyone a gentle reminder, not to re-cross the timing mats once you have finished the race, if you are still wearing your timing chip, as this may lead to incorrect results being published.
